The 2015 Atlantic hurricane forecast calls for fewer hurricanes than usual.
NOAA issued the first outlook for the 2015 hurricane season, calling for a 70% likelihood of a below-normal season in the Atlantic, but a 70% chance of an above-normal season in the Eastern Pacific. (http://go.usa.gov/39zWY) Both of these outlooks are dominated by effects of the strengthening El Ninõ conditions, bringing warmer than normal surface temperatures to the eastern Pacific, and near-normal temperatures in the western Atlantic. This image from NOAA View shows the sea surface temperature departure for the week of May 18-24, 2015. Areas colored red are warmer than the 1981-2010 average; areas colored blue are cooler.
