Baltimore County health officials have put out this warning about a rabid cat in the Reisterstown area:
The Baltimore County Department of Health is urging residents near Delight Road in Reisterstown (21136) to be aware of possible exposure to a cat which tested positive for rabies on Monday, September 29. The cat was a male, grey striped tabby that may have had a limp.
In light of this incident, area residents are urged to contact the Health Department if they have had direct exposure to this cat AND to take actions to protect themselves, their families and pets from rabies exposure. At 2:20 a.m., the suspect pried open the rear door to the location. The suspect then tried to go through the wall in order to get inside the pharmacy next door. When he was unsuccessful, he removed ceiling tiles to try to climb over, but was not successful. He eventually left, and made entry by door glass to the pharmacy next door. The suspect was later taken into custody.
At 4:21 a.m., patrol officers responded for an alarm at the Essex Pharmacy and Surgicals. They discovered an open back door. A suspect was located inside and taken into custody. The suspect had stolen prescription medications.
Sometime between 10:50 p.m. and 11:04 p.m., unknown suspects gained entry to Essex Pharmacy and Surgicals by making a hole in the roof. Prescription medications were taken from the location.
