Health officials encourage men to take control of their health

After running three pilot clinics in 2016, Baltimore County health officials are now offering free weekly screening clinics to uninsured and underinsured teenage and adult males. Each week the clinic will be held on Friday mornings at one or two of health centers operated by the Department of Health.

“During our pilot clinics we served over 40 men with a variety of urgent and minor health issues,” said Director of Health and Human Services, Dr. Gregory Wm. Branch. “It is my hope that this additional clinic specifically for men, will help us address the rising HIV and sexually transmitted infection rates among young men, while helping them make better health and lifestyle choices.”

The purpose of the Men’s Health Screening Clinic is aligned with the Department of Health’s mission to prevent disease and promote health through education, advocacy, linkage to care and treatment. Males who attend the free clinics for a “tune up” will be provided with:

  • Education about health and appropriate screenings,
  • Advocacy and assistance with applying for Medical Assistance,
  • Links to community resources for those without insurance, while those with insurance will be referred to their primary care providers for follow up, and
  • Treatment of sexually transmitted infections.
