The Violent Crimes Unit targets those offenses which pose a significant threat to the lives and safety of others. The types of cases may include home invasion robberies, multiple offense and/or multiple offender armed robberies, violent offenses committed upon elderly impaired victims, criminal endeavors targeting the acquisition of firearms, murder for hire, gang violence and violent juvenile offenders, who are tried as adults.
The Violent Crimes Unit consists of two full time senior prosecutors with extensive jury trial experience. Although they handle many of the cases, they also oversee the trial of crimes which are assigned to other Circuit Court trial team members.
The Chief of the Unit is on call to assist police in pending investigations. In the absence of the Circuit Court Chief, is responsible for the supervision of the trial teams.
