The goal of the Victim Witness Assistance Unit is to provide crime victims and witnesses with information regarding the status of their case, and to respond to questions relating to it. In addition, information is provided about restitution, compensation, the criminal justice system and service agencies. The staff acts as a liaison to the prosecutors.
The unit contacts victims and witnesses, informing them of trial dates and changes as they occur. Staff will address such issues as scheduling conflicts and defendant status. They collect restitution information and Victim Impact Statements. They offer reassurance and encouragement to those drawn reluctantly into the criminal justice system.
This is a peer support group sponsored by the State's Attorney's Office. Meetings are scheduled on the second Monday of the month at Towson United Methodist Church located on Hampton Lane at Dulaney Valley Road, just off 1-695. Meetings last from 7:30 PM until 9:00 PM, with informal gathering between 7:00-7:30 PM. For information, call the Victim Witness Assistance Unit at 410-887-6650.
