Payee Volunteers
This volunteer manages the monthly income of clients who are unable to handle their financial affairs because of a physical or mental disability. It is an important responsibility -- one that can make a positive difference in the client's life.
Establish and manage a bank account. Visit client monthly to complete transactions and monitor financial needs. Complete a monthly report for program coordinator.
Orientation to the Baltimore County Department of Social Services and two hours training on Representative Payee program and policies.
The volunteer will be assigned to a supervisor who will review monthly records. The Advisory Board of the Representative Payee Program in Baltimore County has professionals in all related fields (i.e., health, legal, etc.) who are available for consultation. Clients are generally served by a social worker who is an additional source of information and assistance.

24 Hour Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Hotline
The ability to demonstrate empathy and emotional caring to callers.
Effective communication skills.
Desire to help others help themselves.
Ability to realize own biases and try not to let these biases get in the way of effective crisis counseling.
Desire to grow personally and professionally.

Completion of initial interview.
Completion of required hotline training.
Work 3 hotline shifts monthly (approximately 15 hours).
One-year commitment.
Divert hotline at scheduled time.
Complete and submit appropriate paperwork for hotline calls.
Attend quarterly meetings.
Familiarize yourself with the referrals.
Refer callers to appropriate agencies.
Training and Preparation
It is necessary for volunteers to attend preliminary interview and complete approximately thirty hours of training in rape, domestic violence, child sexual assault, suicide, child abuse, communication skills, crisis intervention, role plays, value discussion and hotline protocol.
