Volunteer Opportunities

Do You Want to Help Us Built Stronger Families and Communities?

We will match your interests, skills, and time to rewarding volunteer experiences such as:

  • Clerical Volunteer: Assist with clerical duties including filing, photocopying, phone coverage, typing, data entry.
  • Clothing Room Volunteer: Helps maintain resource of recycled, donated clothing and household goods serving approximately 500 clients per year. Duties include sorting and displaying items.
  • Payee: Manages the monthly income of clients who are unable to handle their financial affairs because of a physical or mental disability. Establishes a bank account with direct deposit of benefits, writes checks, balances checkbook, completes a monthly report and visits the client monthly to monitor financial needs.
  • Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence Hotline: After 30 hour training, answers hotline for 2 five hour shifts monthly, referring callers to appropriate resources.
  • Special Projects Volunteer: Coordinates recruitment of donors or planning of events benefitting client families. 

Supervision

Volunteers working with clients will be supervised by the professional social worker who has responsibility for the client. Other volunteers are supervised by the Volunteer Director, Hot Line Volunteer Coordinator, etc.

Training

All volunteers will be oriented to the agency and receive training appropriate to the volunteer task. Volunteers will be interviewed and screened, including references and criminal background checks as required.

Benefits

Volunteers may receive evaluations and reference letters for college applications or job purposes. With pre-approval by a Baltimore County Public School Student Service Learning Coordinator, credit may be given for certain hours. Volunteers may also be reimbursed for mileage, parking and meals under certain circumstances.

We can also provide exciting internship opportunities to college students in a variety of human service and related majors.
