Services to Pregnant and Parenting Adolescents
What is the purpose of the service?
This service, which is provided by professionally trained and licensed social workers, seeks to help pregnant and parenting adolescents enhance their parenting skills, improve communication with family members, learn about pregnancy prevention, and secure stability in their living arrangements.
Who is eligible?
This voluntary service is available to Baltimore County residents under the age of 21 who are pregnant or parenting.
What services are offered to pregnant and parenting adolescents?
A combination of group and individual activities are used to help participants acquire the life skills needed to become self-sufficient and responsible parents. Some of the issues we might talk about include:
- Communication problems between teens and their parents
- Problems with boyfriends and girlfriends
- Making good choices about sex
- Birth control and pregnancy options
- Obtaining medical care for mother and child
- Information about financial assistance, work programs, and day care
- Managing money and working
- Coping with stress
- Parenting techniques
- Problem solving
- Housing issues
