Refrigerator Replacement Program

Baltimore County Department of Social Services was recently awarded a grant from the Maryland Energy Administration to provide refrigerators to eligible low-income senior homeowners by replacing primary refrigerators manufactured prior to 2001 with a new Frigidaire Energy Star refrigerator. These refrigerators use much less energy and should provide each homeowner with cost savings on their monthly energy bill. If you meet the income guidelines, you may be eligible to obtain a new refrigerator to further assist you with your electric bills.

Eligibility Requirements

The requirements for the program are:

  • At least 65 years of age
  • Must own your residence
  • Refrigerator must be manufactured prior to 2001 and not have an ice maker or water dispenser
  • Refrigerator must be clean and free of any infestation
  • Must permit Baltimore County and its agents to inspect, remove and recycle your old refrigerator
  • Must provide proof of income (tax return)

Refrigerator Information

  • New 18.2 cubic foot Frigidaire Energy Star refrigerator will be provided and delivered free of charge by Lowe’s

  • The replacement refrigerator will not have ice makers or water dispensers.

  • The color of the refrigerator is white.

  • The refrigerator will have a one year manufacturer’s warranty, which can be activated by a registration card.

  • Deliveries will be made from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., seven days a week including holidays.

Application Information

Please be advised that the County will provide the new Frigidaire Energy Star refrigerators to only 128 eligible homeowners on a first-come, first-certified basis. If interested, please complete the forms (PDF) and return them as soon as possible to:
