Emergency Assistance Flex Funds
Household Composition (Assistance Unit)
Flex Funds are available to residents of Baltimore County.
Purpose of Assistance
To address an emergency need of the applicant through the purchase of goods or services; covered emergencies are determined by the situation; funds may also be used to address items in the service and employment plans of the applicant.
Benefit Amount
The amount varies based upon the need.
Time Frame
The assistance provided should address the current emergency. Under extreme circumstances consideration may be given for a customer to receive more than one flex fund in a 12-month period for additional emergencies.
Method of Payment
All payments are made to vendors; in most cases checks are mailed, if necessary with prearrangement. A customer may pick up the check at 3:30 p.m. at the Towson Office only.
Income/Assets
Financial assets are not considered unless available at the time of application, however household income and how funds have been spent are considered in evaluating the plan to meet future expenses.
Verification Requirements
Documentation of emergency situation, related bills or expenses, and plan to meet future expenses ( household income).
Application for other Programs
Flex Funds can be given in combination with other forms of assistance.
