Project Grants - Funding Guidelines

General Statement

Baltimore County, recognizing the important role which the arts and sciences play in the everyday lives of its citizens, encourages development of these activities and promotes public participation through a program of grants to cultural institutions and community organizations.

Objectives of the County's grant program include responding to the needs and encouraging the creativity of area cultural organizations and providing the citizens of Baltimore County a variety of cultural offerings of high quality, ranging from the traditional to the innovative, that reflect the diversity of our County's cultural heritage.

The Baltimore County Commission on Arts and Sciences grants program is financed by funds recommended by the County Executive and appropriated by the County Council.  Grants are awarded to non-profit organizations serving the greater Baltimore area which seek supplementary financial support for cultural projects with direct citizen impact.

Application Procedures

  1. All Project Grant Applications (PDF) must be typed. Computer generated applications are encouraged; however, please maintain the established format.  Where possible, keep answers together rather than referencing an attachment.
  2. Six (6) copies of the application for Financial Assistance (PDF) form (all original signatures).
  3. Keep all answers concise.
  4. Read all instructions and guidelines carefully before beginning the application and please adhere to guidelines.
  5. All applications must be postmarked or received in the Commission office by 4 p.m. on the first Friday in April.  Applications will not be accepted after that time.
  6. All applicants must be signed by the proper authority of the applying organization.  The following credit must appear in all publicity and on printed programs (or announced verbally at the event if no programs are distributed) for any event sponsored by Baltimore County through grant funding.  "This program, performance or event (as appropriate) is made possible in part through sponsorship of the Baltimore County Executive,  County Council and Commission on Arts and Sciences."  We reserve the right to request an operating budget for the post, current and projected fiscal year, if needed.
