The Commission on Arts and Sciences was created in 1977 by the County Council, Bill 43-77, Article XIII, and consists of seventeen members, appointed by the County Executive or County Council for terms of three years.
Primary Function and Purposes
The primary function of the Commission is the equitable distribution of grant funding made available through state and county government. The purposes are:
- To develop, coordinate and promote the performing and visual art and sciences.
- To negotiate, without contracting therefore, for artistic services, performances and exhibits.
- To make presentations of programs relating to the arts and sciences accessible for enjoyment, education, cultural enrichment and benefit of the citizens of Baltimore County.
