The arts play an important role in the quality of life in Maryland. The most recent data available, reported in 2004, demonstrates that the arts contributed $909 million to the state's economy. The arts industry generated 12,995 jobs. Every $1 of direct spending generated an additional $2.11 in secondary expenditures on goods and services.
