This Division's primary responsibilities as the delegated authority by USEPA through MDE are to manage and effectively enforce the Wastewater Monitoring and Analysis Program through permitting, monitoring and analysis of wastewater from industrial and commercial customers. This Division:

  • Permits commercial and industrial users of the sanitary sewer system.
  • Monitors industrial waste discharges; determines compliance with permit conditions.
  • Analyzes wastewater samples collected from industrial and commercial users of the sanitary sewer system.
  • Enforces, through citations and penalty assessments, violations for non-compliance with permit standards and/or conditions.
  • Calculates wastewater credit allowance for those industries that discharge high strength wastes.
  • Determines industrial surcharge for those industries that discharge high strength wastes.
  • Calculates food service class charge for food service businesses.
  • Controls septic waste haulers using the sanitary sewer system.
  • Provides an opportunity for exchange of ideas, concerns, and up-to-date regulations through newsletters, open houses and formation of committees.
