SWANA "Road-E-O"

SWANA (Solid Waste Association of North America), the largest international organization of solid waste professionals, with over 7,000 members, holds an annual "Road-E-O." Over 100 of the best equipment operators from Maryland and surrounding states compete at the SWANA Road-E-O. Competing operators are required to take a written drivers’ safety exam and navigate their vehicles and equipment through a series of obstacles to perform a variety of exercises simulating everyday encounters. The safe operation of heavy equipment is a major focus of the event. Contestants compete for prizes and an invitation to participate in the International Road-E-O. Local chapters of SWANA began holding Road-E-O’s in the 1988.
