Q. How do I find out where the sewer and water mains are located?
A. Baltimore County stores the records of all publicly maintained water and sewer pipes. These pipes are located in the County's right of way. Any water and sewer pipes located on private property, unless in the County's right of way, would not be kept by Baltimore County.
Q. Where are the County maintained water, sewer and storm drains in my area?
A. All drawings of county maintained utilities are housed at The Engineering Records Office and can be viewed or purchased for a nominal fee. The office is located in the County Office Building, 111 W. Chesapeake Avenue Room 206 in Towson, and is open from 8:30 A.M. until 4 P.M. Monday through Friday.
Q. How do I obtain copies of aerial photographs or topography?
A. Aerials and topography are available from Geographic Information Systems, GIS, located in room 50 of the Courthouse or by calling 410-887-2233.
Q. How do I find the right of way of a public street?
A. Most of the road drawings available in Engineering Records depict the right of way for public use. These drawings can be viewed during from 8:30 A.M. until 4 P.M. Monday through Friday at the Engineering Records office.
Q. Is my house in a flood zone?
A. Flood Insurance Rate Maps are available from Engineering Records for viewing or purchase from 8:30 A.M. until 4 P.M. Monday through Friday at the Engineering Records office.
Q. How can I hook up to an existing water or sewer main?
A. Contact the Department of Permits and Licenses at 410-887-3614.
Q. How do I find out where the gas, electric, telephone and cable lines are?
A. Information for BGE can be obtained by calling 410-685-0123. Information on telephones lines can be obtained from Verizon at 410-954-6260. Comcast can be reached at 1-877-208-1971.
Q. Who do I contact about problems with my water meter?
A. For all water meter problems you should call Baltimore City at 410-396-5352.
Q. Who should I contact for septic system or well problems?
A. Well water and septic system issues should be addressed to the Department of Environmental Protection & Resource Management (DEPRM).
