The Training Section, located on the Dundalk campus of the Community College of Baltimore County, provides professional police education to recruits beginning a career in law enforcement and maintains Maryland Police Training Commission (MPTC) certifications for more than 1,900 sworn officers throughout their careers with our accredited department. The Training Section also offers specialized courses to our officers in an ongoing effort to ensure that personnel are knowledgeable and skilled in the latest law enforcement practices.
Entrance Level Training Unit (Recruits)
The Entrance Level Training Unit provides instruction to new Baltimore County Police Department (BCoPD) recruits. Academy classes are conducted twice a year, in full compliance with MPTC requirements. A staff of experienced police instructors, all certified by MPTC in various law enforcement disciplines, administers the curriculum.
In-Service Training Unit
Through a comprehensive annual certification process, the In-Service Training Unit ensures that sworn officers comply with State of Maryland mandates and standards pertaining to first aid, officer and firearm safety, homeland security and other issues. This unit also provides specialized criminal and traffic training courses, many of which are available to officers from throughout the region.
