This is the NHTSA/IACP Standardized Field Sobriety Test course. All instructors are certified SFST Instructors. This program also adds the Preliminary Breath Testing program, certifying the student as a PBT Operator (for Maryland use only). The PBT portion of the program is taught by PBT Instructors and is authorized through the Maryland State Police's Chemical Test for Alcohol Unit.
This program is designed for the officer who desires to become proficient in DWI detection. Included in this program are the three standardized and validated field sobriety tests-Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus, Walk-And-Turn, and the One-Leg-Stand.
Upon completion, the officer will receive a certificate of completion for the SFST portion and a PBT Operator card from the Maryland State Police and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Officers also have the option of attending only the SFST or the PBT portion of the class as needed
Requirements For Attendance:
Officers desiring attendance should forward a request for same through their station coordinators. Outside jurisdictions should contact their department's training coordinator to arrange for seats in the class, pending the approval by their Department. Officers selected for this class need only bring notetaking materials. Outside agencies should bring their Department's PBT, if available.
