Speed Statistics
- In 2007, 156 people were killed in speed-related crashes in Maryland, with at least 14 occurring in Baltimore County.
- Speed-related crashes accounted for 28 percent of all 2007 Maryland traffic fatalities.
- According to the National Study Center at the University of Maryland, more drivers were cited for speeding in Baltimore County in 2007 than for any other traffic violation, making up 20 percent of all traffic violations. This was three times higher than any other violation.
- Speeding is one of the most prevalent factors contributing to motor vehicle crashes, which are the leading cause of death for every age from 4 through 33.
- According to the federal government, in 2007, almost half of all speeding fatalities occurred on local and collector roads. These are the low speed roads found in business and residential areas.
