Retiree Survivor Benefits

Survivors of retired Baltimore County Police Department employees may be entitled benefits from Baltimore County or the Police Department. Benefits vary widely depending on the different choices that employees and retirees make and the options that were available at the time.

Examples of benefits may include:

PBA Benefits

As active employees, members have the option of joining the Police Benevolent Association (PBA). PBA members pay dues and at the time of their death, a one time death benefit is awarded. If your loved one was a member of PBA, his/her Statement of Earnings and Deductions (pay stub) would occasionally show a deduction for payouts to other PBA beneficiaries. The Personnel Section can verify benefits if you are unsure of your loved one's  participation in the program.

Life and Health Insurance Benefits

Many different life and health insurance benefits exist depending on options that were available during employment or the time of retirement. The Police Department's Personnel Section can provide you with appropriate contact information for the Baltimore County Retirement Office and Baltimore County Insurance Division so that you may obtain important information on these benefits.

Ceremonial Funeral Service Entitlements

Retired sworn members are eligible for certain ceremonial funeral service entitlements depending on length of service and rank achieved while employed  with the Baltimore County Police Department. Entitlements may include an Honor Guard Color Team or Honor Guard Body Bearers, for example. If funeral entitlements are being requested, make immediate notification to the Police Department.

For questions, specific benefit information, or referral to the appropriate County agency, please contact the Baltimore County Police Department personnel Section at 410-887-2208 Monday through Friday between 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. If contact is necessary after hours, or on weekends or holidays, please contact Police Liaison at 410-307-2020 and request notification of the Personnel Section Lieutenant. Provide Police Liaison with call back information and a representative will contact you as soon as possible.
