The Explorer Program at Precinct 12 meets the first and third Thursday of the month at the police station. Members must be at least 14 years old and maintain a C average in school.
Explorer post members are expected to attend all regular scheduled meetings - twice a month. Members receive basic instruction in all phases of law enforcement including criminal law, traffic law, criminal investigation, crime prevention, traffic control and direction, accident investigation, juvenile delinquency and other related fields which are integral parts of law enforcement.
Explorers are required to participate in the numerous details performed by the post, usually in the areas of traffic direction, security and communications. Participation is also encouraged for all post activities including field trips, camping trips, dances, multi-post multi-regional training seminars, the ride-along program, etc.
The Ride-Along Program is a privilege, which has been earned by the members of the Baltimore County Police Explorer Program. The Ride- Along Program allows interested, qualified Explorers the chance to observe street level police work on a first-hand basis. The program gives Explorers a working knowledge of law enforcement as they observe police officers respond to calls for service and follow through on criminal investigations to a successful conclusion. Explorers wishing to take part in the Ride-Along Program must have successfully completed the three-month probationary period and must have parental permission.
