Precinct Community Outreach Team members are assigned at the discretion of the precinct commanders and perform the following duties:
- Serving as proactive resources in identifying, stabilizing and resolving community fear and disorder using the problem-solving
- Developing and executing strategies that promote crime prevention
- Creating community interaction that promotes and maintains police/community cooperation and communication
- Supporting the community problem solving efforts of Patrol Units, Investigative services Team and the Community Drug & Violence Interdiction Team.
- Working with local youth through programs such as the Police Athletic League and Explorer Program.
- Assisting in the investigations of bias incidents.
- Guiding and assisting local Citizens on Patrol Groups
Citizens on Patrol, or C.O.P. are organized groups of citizens who volunteer their time to patrol their own neighborhoods. They act as the "eyes and ears" for their local police precinct. Citizens on Patrol Program is an effective way to prevent crime in a local area. It allows the residents of the community to actively patrol and feel a sense of pride protecting their friends and families from crime.
