To All of the Precinct 02 and Randallstown Substation Residents:
My name is June Bernice West, in the community most people call me Bernice. My family has lived in the Woodlawn Community since 1960 and I have lived here a total of 34 years. I am currently the President of the Woodlawn Police Community Relations Council. This is the PCR group that you will now fall under since the addition of the Randallstown Substation.
My participation in community issues has been with the Hilltop Community Association, where I reside. I have been a street representative, 2 yrs as President, 2 yrs as Vice President and currently as recording secretary.
In 2001 Hilltop COP was formed with the help of a County Crime Prevention Grant. My interest with the COP is as advisor and patrol member. In 2001 the COP members, myself included attended the 10 week program for the Citizens Police Academy, these classes were very informative and gave a new understanding of police work. I recommend this program to all community residents.
My involvement with the Woodlawn PCR started as an individual member as well as the HOA representative. The PCR is a vital link between the Woodlawn Precinct and the new Randallstown Substation. It is involved with the communities as well as the businesses.
My current term as President of the Woodlawn PCR is now in it's 2nd year. It has been a learning experience for me, a good one. During this time we have held two Officer of the Year ceremonies, celebrated two holiday parties, two Officer Appreciation Days, a Precinct 02 Open House, and in August held the 1st National Night Out event at the Precinct.
The attendance at our monthly meetings is steady, guest speakers come to most meetings, keeping the communities informed on issues of interest. The PCR fund raisers provide additional funds for projects. This year our annual afghan raffle was successful, and the Baltimore County Police Bear sales are doing well.
The Woodlawn PCR welcomes all community residents to the meetings, held on the 2nd Wednesday of every month, at the Woodlawn Precinct located at 6424 Windsor Mill Road, at 7:00 P.M. Businesses are also invited. Come join us for a meeting and become a member of our PCR family. The PCR also publishes a newsletter called the Angel Crier, which is provided to all dues paying members, groups, and associations. The continued advancement of the Woodlawn PCR is my goal. It takes involvement as well as time to promote interest.
Another interest of mine is as a member of a group called the Carroll Collectors Club, our members are avid collector's of a variety of things. Mine are bears and Hallmark ornaments. Every year we decorate and donate a tree for the Festival of Trees for the Kennedy Krieger Institute. The sale of our trees have donated about $5,000.00 to the event. The group also does an Annual Bingo for breast cancer in October. Over the past 4 years almost $25,000.00 was presented to the Woman's Place.
Being "retired" affords me the time to be and stay involved in what is happening around me. Any questions? Call me at 410-944-5612 or by e-mail at Cera1941@aol.com.
