| | | On April 11, 1874, the Maryland Legislature approved what became Chapter 374 of the Laws of Maryland. This authorized the Baltimore County Commissioners "to appoint such number of policemen as they may deem necessary, for the better protection of persons and property; the number not to exceed 30 at any one time...". A second provision stated that, "the pay of each policemen shall be 2 dollars per day...". A third provision limited the tax imposed to pay for these services. The Baltimore County Police Department actually started in June 1874 when 5 districts were created. These were not similar to any of the precinct boundaries we know today, because at that time the City was actually much smaller, and much of what is now the City, was considered the County.
| In 1936 a sub-station was opened in Woodlawn. Prior to that the Woodlawn area had been covered by officers from stations located elsewhere. In 1943 the County Commissioners created the rank of Corporal to assist in the discipline and efficiency of the Department. This action was prompted in part by the fact that the Reisterstown and Woodlawn substations had no supervisors. A patrolman had been in charge of the day and night shifts. The Woodlawn substation was located across the street from Precinct 2's current location. The first known commander was Edward Poehlman who served between 1936-39. |

| In 1955, what we now call the "Old Station", was built at 7222 Windsor Mill Road. At that time Woodlawn had 2 patrol cars with an east/west dividing line of Rolling Road. This building recently housed Western Patrol Services, which includes what we commonly refer to as Traffic and Accident Investigation, until those officers were assigned to Precincts. |

| The New Precinct 2 Built and Dedicated April 18, 1991, 6424 Windsor Mill Road | In 1991, the new Precinct was built at 6424 Windsor Mill Road. Today, depending on the shift, there are from 8 to 13 post cars, not counting supervisors or desk officers.
Precinct 2 is bordered on the North by Liberty Road (Rt. 26) and on the South by Route 40. It starts at the Baltimore City Limits and continues to the Carroll County and Howard County Lines, encompassing 40.4 square miles of territory. |
