School Bus SCHOOL BUS SAFETY

School has started and many children will be riding the school bus to and from school. Over the years there have been many accidents that have occurred on school buses that could have been avoided by following the below Safety Tips.

Arrive Early and Wait Quietly at the bus stop. Playing around in the road or fooling around can spell D-A-N-G-E-R!

Make sure the bus comes to a Full Stop before you try to get on or off.

Use the Hand Rail when entering and exiting the bus.

Never Walk right in front of the bus, behind the bus or close to the sides or wheels.

Stay in Your Seat, Talk Quietly and never stick your Hands or Head out the window.

Good Behavior on the bus helps prevent accidents.

If Something Goes Wrong:

  • Stay Calm.
  • Follow the bus driver's Instructions.
  • Know where the Emergency Doors and Windows are.

SCHOOL BUS SAFETY TIPS FOR PARENTS

Most school bus fatalities occur when children are outside the bus, and 75% of these involve children under the age of nine.
MAKE SURE YOUR CHILDREN KNOW AND FOLLOW THESE RULES:

  • Be on time
  • Never run to or from the bus
  • Stand back from the curb
  • Don't push or shove
  • Stay in your seat
  • Don't yell or shout
  • Always obey the driver
  • Wait for the signal before crossing
  • Always cross at least 10 feet in front of the bus
  • Never crawl under the bus

Coordinate with other parents to ensure an adult is present at the bus stop everyday, especially when children under the age of nine are present.
