 Child Safety Tips


 For Help or Emergency:

  • Call for police, fireman, or ambulance, dial 911.
  • Tell the operator what your problem is.
  • Stay on the phone, don't hang up.
  • Hang up only when you are told to do so or help arrives.

In case of Fire:

  • Stay low and leave the building or house immediately!
  • Call 911 from a neighbor's house.
  • Never attempt to put out the fire yourself, no matter how small it is.
  • Never go back into a burning building.

Important Fire safety rules:

  • Never play with matches or lighters.
  • Always be careful around a stove, heater or open flame.
  • If your clothes catch on fire, "Stop, Drop And Roll!"
  • If your friend's clothes catch on fire, don't let him or her run.
  • Yell, "Stop, Drop And Roll!" Call 911.

If you find a Gun, Knife, or other Weapon:

  • Guns, knives and other weapons are very dangerous!
  • Never touch a weapon, no matter where you find it.
  • Leave it alone and tell your parents or a trusted adult.
  • If your parents or an adult is not present, call 911.
  • Tell the operator who you are, where you are, and what you found.

If you find Drugs Or Drug Needles:

  • Never touch them.
  • Leave the area, get away from them.
  • Tell your parents, teacher, or a trusted adult.
  • If an adult is not present call 911.
  • If someone tries to give you drugs yell "No!" and get away quickly.

If approached by a Stranger:

  • Shout as loud as you can "No!" and get away quickly.
  • Don't take anything from a Stranger.
  • Don't talk to Strangers, they may try to hurt you.
  • Tell your parents, teacher or a trusted adult.
  • If an adult is not present call 911.
  • Remember what the person looked like so you can tell police.

If you get Lost:

  • Stay calm.
  • Stay where you are.
  • Your parents may be looking for you.
  • Give them a chance to find you.
  • If no one arrives soon, look for a Police Officer.
  • Know your Address and Phone Number.
  • If you can't find a Police Officer, find a phone and call 911. (Pay phones are free for 911 calls)
