Baltimore County, Md. (April 28, 2008) - Baltimore County Police arrested Timothy Allen Rhodes, 42, of the 8300-block of Oakleigh Road, 21234, on April 24, for the sexual abuse of a 12-year-old girl. The abuse took place in different rooms of the suspect’s residence.
Police are asking any other victims who have not come forward, or who were abused by Timothy Rhodes, to contact the Baltimore County Police Department’s Crimes Against Children Unit at 410-853-3650. Rhodes is a school physical education teacher at Pleasant Plains Elementary School, 21286.
Detectives say that the victim and her mother contacted police on April 11, after the girl told her mother about the abuse and wanted to change schools. The abuse did not take place at the school, but took place at Rhodes’ residence. Timothy Rhodes’ wife would help the victim’s mother who was going to school, by providing morning and after-school care for the victim.
Timothy Rhodes abused the victim on nights she stayed at his house, and after his wife went to work at night. He would touch personal areas of the victim under her clothing when she went to sleep, and on occasion would engage in oral sex with the victim. This occurred 20 to 30 times in different locations of the house, including Rhodes’ bedroom. The victim told detectives she would fake being asleep because she was afraid of him. The abuse began in early 2005 and lasted until November 2007.
Investigators also found that Rhodes was showing the victim pornographic videos in order to instruct her on sexual acts he desired.
Timothy Rhodes has been charged with sex abuse of a minor, second-degree child abuse, second-degree assault, and third-degree sex offense. He was taken before a commissioner on April 24 and was released after posting bail on a $250,000 bond.
