Projects in Process

The Department is engaged in several major projects:

Pulaski Highway Redevelopment

The Rt. 40 corridor poses an unparalleled—yet unrealized—resource for the Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG) region in accommodating the defense-related contractors and other companies that will relocate here in response to the BRAC (Base Relocation and Closure) expansion at APG. Baltimore County has undertaken a redevelopment study to address the opportunities and challenges posed by BRAC at APG.  The project is expected to serve as a model for redevelopment along the extent of the corridor, from Baltimore City to Newcastle County, Delaware. Adequate Public School Facilities

The Baltimore County Code requires that the Department create regulations, Adopted School Impact Regulations(PDF), to assess development impact on schools.  The County Code also requires that the Department furnish the annual School Adequate Public Facilities Ordinance Report and Maps(PDF) using the September 30 school enrollment data, indicating overcrowded school districts in accordance with parameters in the County Code.

Socioeconomic Forecasts Development

The Department updates socioeconomic forecasts yearly for transportation planning purposes through the cooperative forecasting process in the Baltimore region.  The forecasts are key inputs in travel demand modeling and air quality conformity analysis.  Forecasts also are essential to the regional long-range plan updated every 4 years required by the federal Safe, Accountable, Fair, Efficient Transportation Equity Act – Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU).
