October 2001
In the Spring of 2001, citizens in Dundalk began seeking support for a planning project that would be the first of its kind in Baltimore County. Their goal was this: invite a team of planning professionals to hold a charrette, or workshop, in Dundalk and create a new vision for the community. With help from the State of Maryland, Baltimore County Offices of Community Conservation and Planning, and through financial contributions by citizens of Dundalk, the newly formed Dundalk Renaissance Corporation invited an Urban Design Assistance Team (UDAT) to help the community find a vision for its future.
Dundalk: A Second Century Vision, the resulting UDAT plan, was published and distributed in April 2002. The document gave the community a vision for revitalization. Projects ranging from commercial reinvestment, rehabilitated housing, streetscape improvements, to proposals for grand waterfront developments, the UDAT plan helped the community see the possibilities in their future.
