Walkability is a measure of how friendly an area is to pedestrians. Good walkability has many health, environmental, and economic benefits. Factors influencing walkability include the presence or absence and quality of elements such as sidewalks or paths, traffic and road conditions, land use patterns, building accessibility, and safety.
The Community Design Team, with help from the Turner Station Charrette Steering Committee, conducted a Walkability Survey for the Turner Station Community in the spring of 2009. The community was surveyed on a street-by-street basis, with each street scored on traffic speed, street pavement width, on-street parking, sidewalk width, block length, pedestrian features, land use mix, facade design, and transit/bicycle features.
