Community planning relies on the involvement of citizens. This collaboration ensures the needs of all citizens are addressed. During any County planning process, planners attempt to bring all sides of the issue to the table, along with the information and resources needed to reach an informed decision. Whether it is a comprehensive planning study for a large area, a more focused short-term study such as a UDAT or Charrette, or the review of a development proposal for a specific property, knowledgeable government staff, elected officials, residents and business owners have the opportunity to work together to examine the issues, consider the alternatives, and determine the outcome. While not everyone will agree on every solution, the input of everyone is needed to find the solution that is the most equitable.
The Office of Planning maintains a list of community and business associations (PDF). This list is used to notify the association presidents of Community Input Meetings and other forums to discuss development proposals and to notify them of upcoming planning studies and events.
Ensuring associations that would like to receive these notifications are on the list is a challenge as association officers can change frequently. This information cannot be kept confidentially due to public disclosure laws, so some officers have asked the association name to be removed from the list. Newer officers may prefer to be listed.
The list includes the name of the association and its president. Please check to see if your association is listed, and listed correctly, if you desire to be notified of planning meetings/events. If your association information is not correct, or you would like the listing to be removed, please contact Louise Nelson at lnelson@baltimorecountymd.gov or 410-887-3480. If you would like to register a new community association, please download and fill out this form (PDF) and mail it back to the Office of Planning:
