- Inspect work performed by licensed contractors to ensure conformity with the plumbing and gasfitting code
- Investigate plumbing or gas related complaints
- Interact with contractors, engineers and property owners and answer code compliance questions

- Administer plumbing exams for licensing new applicants in compliance with the Baltimore County Code Regulations
Procedures for Inspections
- All types of plumbing and gasfitting installations are to be installed by a contractor licensed in Baltimore County.
- Repair of faucets and replacement of water closet (toilet) parts do not require a permit.
- Proper permits must be obtained prior to the commencement of any work.
- Plumbing permits are required for all new installations.

- building permit number for residential or commercial building's Use and Occupancy. (Check with your builder for the correct building permit number.)

Inspection Connection
- Please have a pencil or pen handy!
- You will need your permit number.
- You will need a three-digit inspection code number (provided on the web site or by calling the above number).
- Utility licenses expire March 31 every other odd number year.
- Other plumbing and gasfitting licenses expire April 30 of every other odd number year (2007, 2009, etc.)
Baltimore County recognizes and honors the following state issued licenses:
- LP Gasfitters
- Well Prillers
- Pump Installers

Reciprocal Licensing
Baltimore County Plumbing Board reciprocates plumbing and gasfitting licenses with the following only:
- Baltimore City (gas only)
- State of Maryland
- WSSC

Master Plumber-Gasfitter License Application (PDF)
- Requires two (2) years or more as registered journeyman plumber or as journeyman plumber-gasfitter serving under master plumber-gasfitter.
- Authorizes the holder thereof to secure permits and perform work involving
- on-site sewer
- water
- gas
- stormwater drainage facilities
- portable water supply systems
- on-site utilities and disposal systems in Baltimore County.

Master Plumber Reciprocal License Application
- Requires a valid master plumber license issued by another county or municipal corporation of the state if such entity reciprocates with Baltimore County.

Master Gasfitter License Application
- Requires at least two (2) years as registered journeyman gasfitter or journeyman plumber-gasfitter serving under a registered master gasfitter or registered master plumber-gasfitter.
- Authorizes the holder to secure
- permits
- perform gasfitting
- employ registered journeyman gasfitters and apprentices.

Limited Master Plumber-Gasfitter License Application
- May be issued only to person not primarily engaged in plumbing and intends to do plumbing limited to:
- maintenance and repair
- alterations
- minor extensions of existing plumbing systems on the premises of one specific business.

Journeyman Plumber-Gasfitter License Application
- Requires four (4) years or more in acquiring 7500 working hours of experience (including 1500 hours of classroom plumbing work or study), as a state registered apprentice plumber-gasfitter.
- Limits holder to performing plumbing and gasfitting work for and under the direction of a registered, licensed master plumber-gasfitter.
Exam - Journeyman Plumber-Gasfitter License
- February, June and October (only - second Friday of the month)
- 2 hours
- Open book
Journeyman Plumber License
- Requires valid journeyman plumber license issued by another county or municipal corporation of the state if such entity reciprocates with Baltimore County.

Journeyman Gasfitter License
- Requires 3,750 work hours over at least 2 years as an apprentice gasfitter.
- Eligible to work at the gasfitting business for and under the direction of a registered master gasfitter.
Exam - Journeyman Gasfitter Exam Application
On-site Utility Contractor License
- Issued to official of a business who is entitled to secure permits for on-site work and who installs on-site sewer, water and storm drainage facilities from the county mains to property lines as well as utilities for large projects.
Disposal System Contractor License - Exam
- Installs private disposal systems composed of
- septic tanks
- seepage pits
- filtering beds
- distribution boxes
- drain fields
- secures permits for above mentioned work.

Water Pump Contractors
- Grinder Pumps: Plumbers should proceed carefully when hooking up grinder pumps. Read and understand procedures before proceeding to ensure pump is installed before hook-up.
Examinations test for the knowledge of plumbing and gasfitting installations and materials. The Baltimore County Plumbing Code (PDF) effective as of December 30, 2007, adopted the 2006 National Standard Plumbing Code with the 2007 Supplement with amendments.
