Grading and Sediment Enforcements
The Inspection and Enforcement (IE) oversees active construction sites for proper grading and sediment and erosion control compliance and investigates drainage complaints related to construction activities in the County.
You will find:
- Grading Permit Requirements
A grading permit is required if the proposed grading disturbs over 5,000 square feet of surface area or over 100 cubic yards of earth. A grading permit is required for any grading activities in any watercourse, floodplain, wetland area, buffers (stream and within 100 feet of tidal water), habitat protection areas or forest buffer areas (includes forest conservation areas). - Grading Regulations

Standard Plans are used in lieu of Sediment and Erosion Control Plans approved by the Baltimore County Soil Conservation District for sites with a limit of disturbance of less than 30,000 square feet for a individual lot single family dwelling and for commercial sites with a limit of disturbance of less than 20,000 square feet.
