Services for New & Expanding Business
In today's fast-paced environment, businesses must continually search for resources that save time and money. This is the foundation on which Baltimore County's Office of Workforce Development (BCOWD) designed its workforce development services. The Agency's initiatives and services directly benefit its primary customer - the Baltimore County business community, while also supporting the County's commitment to workforce and economic development. By investing in human capital, the Office of Workforce Development prepares students and job seekers for the job market and supports workplace training for existing employees.
As a benefit to Baltimore County's business community, costs of all business services are supported by the Office of Workforce Development . To find out how BCOWD can assist your business, contact Carol Brooks, Business Services Manager at 410-887-3501 or by email at cbrooks@baltimorecountymd.gov.
Assistance for Recruiting a Skilled Workforce
Recruiting can be a costly and time-consuming endeavor for businesses of any size. BCOWD works with a candidate pool that ranges from skilled laborers to executive managers. Let BCOWD save you time and money by matching your employment needs with qualified employees. Services are individualized according to the business' needs, and can range from job postings to customized recruitments that may include advertising, administrative support, resume screening, pre-screening of prospective job applicants, basic skills assessment, and coordinated employment events. For a copy of our job posting application or to discuss your recruitment needs, email your request to cbrooks@baltimorecountymd.gov.
Workplace Training & Education
BCOWD promotes the concept of lifelong learning and continuous career development. Given today's tight labor market, workplace training is critical to continued success and is a valuable retention tool. Many businesses have unique hiring needs that make it difficult to identify qualified job candidates. In many instances, BCOWD invests funds to offset the extraordinary costs of training new employees. Training projects for existing workers are funded based on funding availability, and the type of training and its impact on the business' competitive position, productivity, market share and profit.
BCOWD funds are also used to provide job seekers with training opportunities in fields relevant to today's job market. BCOWD also provides ancillary services that are designed to provide assessment of skills and career guidance for job seekers. Promote your company's internship and on-the-job training opportunities at our workforce development resource centers. Our candidates have transferable skills for your industry and will prove to be an asset to your company.
Assistance For Business Downsizing
Downsizing your workforce is an unfortunate situation for both the business and the affected employees. BCOWD has implemented systems to effectively assist businesses, while creating a more immediate connection to our services for the dislocated workers. With BCOWD as a key partner on the Maryland Dislocated Worker Unit Rapid Response Team, Baltimore County businesses and affected employees have an excellent resource to provide valuable information about transition, training and reemployment services of which they are typically unaware.
OWD Services are customized according to both the business' and employees needs and may include:
- On-site information sessions and resources
- Professional seminars for job-search and reemployment
- Group and individual counseling sessions
- Training and skills upgrade information sessions and funding assistance
- Industry specific job matching and recruitment initiatives
If you are a Baltimore County business in need of outplacement assistance, email your request to cbrooks@baltimorecountymd.gov or contact the Maryland Dislocated Worker Unit. (billbodie@dllr.state.md.us)
