The Baltimore County Department of Health, Bureau of Substance Abuse provides treatment for substance abusers and their families, implements programs and services to prevent substance abuse, and develops, coordinates, and monitors a countywide network of substance abuse prevention and treatment services.
The Bureau of Substance Abuse is pleased to present the first annual report Pathway to Progress. This publication reflects the prevention, intervention, and treatment services contracted through the Bureau as well as services provided directly by the Bureau during Fiscal Year 2005. The Local Drug and Alcohol Abuse Council consists of local Baltimore County judiciary, community members, and prevention and treatment providers. The Council develops strategies and priorities that aim to meet the substance abuse prevention and treatment needs of the County. The Council meets bi-monthly in Towson. The Bureau of Substance Abuse reminds everyone to celebrate safely this summer. Whether it's a holiday weekend, graduation, or backyard barbeque, many people consume alcohol as part of their celebrations with family and friends. Treatment Services for Adolescents
The Adolescent Services Division of the Bureau of Substance Abuse provides specialized services for Baltimore County adolescents and their families. Services include assessment, referral, early intervention and treatment.
Treatment Services for Adults
A variety of treatment services are provided either directly by the Bureau of through contracted vendors. Placement into treatment requires a thorough assessment to determine the most effective treatment program needed. Services are provided to County residents based on their ability to pay. Service is not refused to those who cannot afford treatment.
Criminal Justice Services
The Bureau provides alcohol and drug assessments for defendants in Circuit and District Court. Education, assessment, and referral services are provided for inmates in the Detention Center. For additional information, see Criminal Justice Services.
Prevention Services
The Bureau's Prevention programs provide services to individuals, families, schools and communities throughout Baltimore County. These programs are designed to prevent or delay the onset of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs of abuse. View Prevention Services to see specific programs offered.
