This bureau consists of three separate programs for HIV/AIDS. Through these programs, the bureau strives to keep HIV positive people and those living with AIDS in the community through counseling, education, and concrete support services.
It provides a wide variety of HIV/AIDS related activities to the community in order to reduce HIV infection in the County, and to meet the needs of those already infected or affected.
HIV/AIDS Prevention, Education and Outreach provides programs and activities to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS and to raise awareness in the community about how to deal with the illness.
HIV/AIDS Case Management Services provides programs and services such as locating and coordinating medical care, including information on how to obtain medication, and obtaining other supportive services for those infected with HIV/AIDS. Case Management sponsors the Horizons Support Group (PDF) which provides a place for people to share experiences and get support in dealing with the illness.
HIV/AIDS Testing provides free, anonymous and confidential testing for HIV/AIDS using OraQuick® Advance. To help reach people who may be at risk for HIV infection, the National Association of People with AIDS has created National HIV Testing Day. The theme of the campaign is, "Take The Test; Take Control" and is held each year on June 27th.
The Maryland Children's Health Insurance Program provides health insurance for low-income families with children.
