The adoption fee is $50 for dogs and $40 for cats. The fee includes:

  • A spayed or neutered pet (dog, puppy, cat or kitten)
  • First series of vaccinations, including rabies shot
  • Animal license, as required by Baltimore County law
  • Microchip with lifetime registry
  • Welcome home kit

Discounts for Veterans

Waived Fees During Veteran and Memorial Day Holidays

Animal adoption and spay and neuter fees will be waived to qualified military veterans (see accepted proof of service below) during the Veteran and Memorial holidays.

Except for designated holidays when fees may be waived completely, veterans receive a half-off adoption fee year-round. Proof of military service will be requested upon adoption or scheduling the spay or neuter appointment.

Pets for Patriots

Baltimore County Animal Shelter is a proud adoption partner of Pets for Patriots, a nationally operating 501(c)(3) charity creating opportunities for veterans and service members to save hard-to-adopt shelter pets.

Accepted proof of service are a DD214, discharge or a valid driver's license or state I.D. with a veteran designation.

Adoption Partners

Baltimore County Animal Services takes in thousands of animals each year. In order to increase the number and rate at which pets can be placed into forever homes, we work diligently with animal rescue organizations in and around the area through our Adoption Partner Program. Our approved partners accept transfers of animals from our shelter into their care, often due to medical or behavioral issues beyond the scope of a large, open-admission shelter.

In the past two years, we have released over 1,500 animals through this program! We are incredibly grateful for this community support and happy to announce our exciting changes, including a new coordinator and a new application process. The Agreements have been updated to better reflect our commitment to partners in the program. Also included is an Information Sheet that allows us to get to know the interests and capabilities of our rescue resources. Prospective adoption partners should follow these steps.

  1. Read the Adoption Partner Policies and Agreement.

  2. Fill out the Adoption Partner Information Sheet.

  3. Review the Transport Agreement.

  4. Submit a signed copy of the Agreement, completed Information Sheet and proof of 501c3 status via mail, fax or email to:

As the documents have recently changed, we are asking those adoption partners currently registered with Baltimore County Animal Services to submit new signed Agreements and Information Sheets.

We are always looking to grow our program. Please spread the word to animal organizations that may qualify to join and contact our coordinator directly with further questions.

Available Pets

Animals currently available for adoption are listed below. While this page is updated daily, not every animal currently in the custody of Animal Services is eligible for adoption.

When inquiring about an animal, please have its Animal ID handy.

If you have recently lost your pet, please also view our lost cat or lost dog information and call the animal shelter daily at 410-887-7297.
