Mission Statement:
To prevent injuries and their consequences (deaths, disability, disruption of health and well-being) through the provision of high quality educational materials and the development of partnerships to assure that Citizens of Baltimore County have access to information and services that can help them reduce injury, risks, and protect themselves, their loved ones and others in their care.
Purpose:
We recognize that injuries are the leading cause of death between the ages of 1 and 44 year, and the fourth leading cause of death throughout life. Injuries disproportionalely impace young and productive members of our society and place a considerable financial, social and emotional burden on families and our community. Our elders suffer the highest death rates of any group and injury later in life frequently leads to limitations of mobility and independent living.
We know that many injuries are preventable through changes in knowledge, behavior, the physical environment or our social environments.
Reducing the burden of injury in Baltimore County requires:
- Recognition that injury is a mojor, but preventable, threat to our citizen's health and well-being.
- Empowerment of citizens to make informed safe choices and changes to their environments.
- Development of partnerships to assure that citizens of Baltimore County have access to injury prevention information and services.
- Improved capacity of Baltimore County agencies to address injury prevention and treats to safety.
- Easy access to high quality information and educational materials.
