Psychiatric Medication

There are several agencies and programs that offer funding for medication on a limited and long-term basis:

  • The Maryland Primary Care Program (PAC) provides Primary Care Provider services, free outpatient visits to a counselor or psychiatrist for mental health services, and lower priced or no-cost prescription drugs (you may need to pay a co-pay for some prescriptions). Individuals who are interested in applying for PAC, but who do not have access to the internet may also call toll-free at 1-800-266-2142 to request an application form and additional information.

  • The Employed Individuals with Disabilities Program (EID) provides similar services as Medical Assistance to certain individuals who are working and have a disability.  Coverage includes certain mental health and physical health care as well as prescription coverage. Call toll-free at 1-866-373-9651 to request an application.

  • The MedBank Program offers prescription assistance for people meeting eligibility guidelines and who have no other prescription coverage. Please call 1-877-435-7755 for additional information regarding eligibility and coverage offered.

  • The Bureau of Mental Health/Core Service Agency offers one-time assistance for persons meeting eligibility requirements and who have exhausted other options to obtain funding for psychotropic medication. Persons must have a case manager, therapist, physician, etc. to apply on their behalf for assistance. The application can be accessed by calling 410-887-2731 or through the "Forms" section of this site.

  • Effective October 1, 2004, the Medicaid Program implemented a new Pharamacy Access Hotline for recipents who are having problems obtaining needed medications or experiencing other pharmacy related issues or problems. The hotline accepts calls from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and has the option for callers to leave a message when calling after 5 p.m. Pharmacy staff will return calls the next business day. The Pharmacy Access Hotline can be reached by calling 410-767-5800 or 1-800-492-5231 toll free and selecting option #3.
