Maryland State Law requires inspectors to be licensed registered sanitarians who are also required to obtain annual continuing educational training. The Division of Medical Environmental Health staff collectively has over 125 years of food protection and environmental control expertise.
The State Board of Environmental Sanitarians regulates professionals who routinely perform inspections and investigations related to enforcing Maryland’s health and environmental laws and regulations. Sanitarians work in areas of: food control, air quality, solid waste disposal, insect and rodent control, recreational sanitation, water supply and treatment, wastewater management and disposal, vector control, institutional and residential sanitation and product safety.
