Achievement Awards for Outstanding Performance

About the Awards

The Division of Medical Environmental Health has initiated an incentive program to acknowledge health care facilities that had no observed violations when inspected.  These facilities, when inspected, exhibited excellence in food safety and environmental control practices.  Facilities that demonstrate such exemplary compliance during periodic routine inspections will receive a prestigious award presented by the County's Health Officer.

Award recipients have conscientious, dedicated employees who by their achievements during periodic inspections will raise the bar for better compliance and serve as examples for other regulated facilities.  Facilities must be licensed, in operation, and must meet the specific standards listed below to receive an award.

Health Officer's Diamond Award

The purpose of the Health Officer’s Diamond Awards Program is to acknowledge facilities that upon inspection dates achieved outstanding performance in food safety and environmental control.  High standards have been set because health care facilities provide services to "at risk" individuals, many of whom are among our most vulnerable citizens.  Only facilities that have not received any observed violations during the required number of inspections can qualify for an award.

Food Safety Award Standards

  • Food establishments with High Priority Food Service Permits must be inspected three times during the previous fiscal year (July 1 to June 30) to be eligible for this award.  Food establishments cannot have any observed or cited violations during these three inspections.
  • Food establishments with Moderate Priority Food Service Permits must be inspected two times during the previous fiscal year (July 1 to June 30) to be eligible for this award.  Food establishments cannot have any observed or cited violations during these two inspections.

Environmental Control Award Standards

  • Facility environments must have two consecutive environmental surveys without any observed violations.

The Award Process

A list of award recipients is computer generated using the food safety and environmental control award standards for the specified time periods.  The Health Officer's Diamond Awards will be awarded annually.  After the awards have been presented, the names of the health care facilities will be posted on this web site.

Disclaimer

Routine dietary and environmental health inspections are merely a “snapshot in time” reflecting the conditions existing during an inspection performed by the County’s Medical Environmental Health Department staff. The findings are as of the date of the inspections and actual conditions at any establishment may very from time to time. The County’s award of the Health Officer’s Diamond Award to any facility and/or the County’s inclusion of any facility in this Award Program web site does not in any manner constitute an endorsement of any health care facility or related food establishment by the County.
