Communicable Disease Division

The purpose of the Division of Communicable Disease is to identify the source and limit the spread of disease and decrease associated morbidity and mortality.

The Code of Maryland Regulations 10.06.01.03 specifies sixty-eight diseases which must be reported by health care providers to the county health officer in each jurisdiction. Upon receipt of a disease report, appropriate action is taken to prevent an outbreak through control of cases, carriers, and environmental spread of infection.

For a detailed list of reportable diseases and reporting instructions, visit the Maryland Epidemiological & Disease Control Program web site.

For more information about infectious diseases, visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Infectious Diseases Information web page
