Breast cancer is the second most common type of cancer and the second leading cause of cancer deaths among women in the United States. The Department of Health is dedicated to educating women about the importance of early detection of breast cancer through annual mammography screening for women over 40, or earlier for women at increased risk.
The Women's Cancer Protection Program provides free mammograms, clinical breast exams and Pap test for Maryland residents who are income eligible. Diagnosis and treatment services are also available through the Maryland Breast and Cervical Cancer Diagnosis & Treatment Program.
All services are provided by private medical professionals in the Baltimore area and scheduled by the nurse case management staff once individuals are determined eligible for the program.
