The Baltimore County Animal Shelter now offers Micro-chipping, a painless process, which takes only minutes to perform, and provides a permanent tracking system for lost pets.
The microchip, which is about the size of a grain of rice, will be inserted with a sterile applicator between the animal's shoulder blades. When a micro-chipped animal is scanned at a veterinarian clinic, animal shelter, research facility or breeder, the pet's unique identifier will lead to the animal's individual record. The toll-free national hotline keeps detailed information on all animals that have been micro-chipped. Information in the registry may be updated to reflect changes in address or ownership of the animal.
Note: Micro-chipping is not a substitute for animal licensing, but provides a permanent form of identification that cannot be lost, wear out, or damaged. |
Micro-chipping is available by appointment only during Thursday morning rabies vaccination clinics.
The cost is $20 per pet.
This includes lifetime enrollment in a national 24-hour lost pet registry.
