Do You Need Services?

If you or a loved one is having trouble hearing or speaking, we can help!

Have your hearing tested if

Signs of Speech and Language Problems

Call for testing if

  • you feel your voice is too high, loud, harsh or hoarse
  • you repeat, hesitate or prolong sounds and/or words when you speak

You or a loved one can get help after a stroke or head injury.

We can help people who have

  • slurred speech
  • trouble understanding what is being said
  • memory difficulties
  • trouble expressing wants and needs
  • trouble organizing thoughts

Guidelines For Children

Look at the chart below to see if your child is hearing and speaking like other children.

Birth

1 year

* Looks at you when you talk (3–-6 months).

* Looks up or comes to you when you call his/her name (2–6 months).

* Laughs (0–3 months).

* Uses a series of sounds like "bababa"
(3–6 months).

* Appears to be talking (9–12 months).

1 year
to
2 years

* Points to body parts when asked.

* Responds to "no."

* Uses 10–20 words.

* Imitates many new words when you talk to her/him.

2 years to
3 years

* Follows simple directions such as "Get your shoe."

* Points to pictures in a book when you say the name.

* Uses 2 word sentences like "more juice," "want ball."

* Answers simple questions like "What do you do when you're hungry?"

* Uses plurals like "2 books," "dogs."

3 years to
4 years

* Follows simple directions such as "Get your shoe."

* Points to pictures in a book when you say the name

* Talks in 4–5 word sentences.

* Counts to 10.

* Tells about pictures in books or about a drawing like "I made a red bird."

4 years to
5 years

* Follow 2–3 step directions.

* Understands words like "them, they, him, her, his."

* Says most sounds correctly except: s, z, th and r.

* Speaks in complete sentences which most people understand.
