The Maryland Defense Force (MDDF)-Baltimore County-Emergency Medical Volunteers is seeking volunteers to support public health efforts in the event of a natural or manmade disaster. Volunteers are needed in medical and non-medical roles. Assistance might include anything from first aid, mass triage, and infirmary care to administrative support, communications, and crowd control. These roles are accomplished by unpaid, uniformed persons who agree to serve as volunteer commissioned or enlisted personnel in the Military Department of Maryland's MDDF Medical Corps. The corps is looking for people from all walks of life who have a desire to help and are willing to attend monthly meetings; although, back-up status is available for people who cannot attend monthly meetings.
The MDDF-Baltimore County-Emergency Medical Volunteers is sponsored by the Baltimore County Health Department and Towson University and is registered with the Office of the Surgeon General as a Medical Reserve Corps (MRC). The MDDF is a distinct component of the Military Department of Maryland. Although the MDDF is federally authorized, it is a local volunteer response force constituted for state duty only. The Maryland Defense Force (MDDF) is an all-volunteer, uniformed organization that provides competent supplemental professional and technical support to the Maryland Military Department (MMD) and the Maryland National Guard (MDARNG) as required.
The Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) pre-identifies, trains, and organizes medical, allied health and non-medical professionals to provide surge capacity support to existing local emergency response programs in the event of a natural or manmade disaster. MRC volunteers also offer their expertise throughout the year by supporting local public health initiatives, such as immunization and prevention activities. View the Brochure (PDF) for MRC.
