Station 16 serves Golden Ring and the surrounding communities in Baltimore County, Maryland.
Station 16 opened Sept. 26, 1966, and was officially dedicated on May 9, 1967. Reserve Engine 63 was in use for the opening of the station. Engine 63’s first call was an automobile fire at Philadelphia Road and Rustic Avenue.
Engine 16 was placed in service on January 21, 1967.
Its first call was a field fire on the Baltimore Beltway, I-695.On June 30, 1967, a leak in th
e roof of the bunkroom was noted in station journal, and it still exists today!
The first mention in the journal of a multi-alarm fire was December 27, 1967 -- three alarms at Wargo’s restaurant, 1725 Taylor Avenue.
Other noteworthy dates:
November 1, 1972- Truck 8 received from Fireman Thayer, 2:35 a.m.
December 10, 1972- Truck 8 ’s first response was to 8A Westway.
November 26, 1973, Truck 8 was transferred to Station 8.
Sometime in 1974, Medic 16 was placed in service as the station's first medic unit.
Three engines have been housed and have seen service at Golden Ring.
Five medic units have been housed and have seen service.
