Station 10 serves Parkville and the surrounding communities in Baltimore County, Maryland.
In 1952, the National Board of Fire Underwriters recommended a fire station in the Parkville area. On Oct. 23, 1954, the Parkville Station opened for business. Parkville’s engine designee was originally 14; but in 1964, as a part of a countywide station renumbering project, it was officially renamed Engine 10.
In 1962, a 1958 Cadillac ambulance was placed in service. Later that year, a Chevrolet “Carry-All” replaced the Cadillac ambulance.
The County purchased replacement engines for Engine 10 in 1961, 1977, 1995 and 2005.
T
he station built in 1954 served the community for 50 years. Around the time of the station's 50th Anniversary, Baltimore County announced that it would replace Fire Station 10 and the attached Parkville Police Precinct with new facilities. The new station went into service on Sept. 29, 2005.
On Nov. 9, 2005, the station addressed the growing need for additional medical service in the Parkville area with the new IV 110, placed in service at the station dedication ceremony.
In 2006, the Fire Department purchased bariatric emergency medical equipment to meet the needs of a growing number of extremely obese patients. Station 10’s central location makes it a good place to house this equipment. Medic 10 and IV 110 were outfitted with the bariatric equipment, and on August 2006, these units were placed in service. Units responded to more than 20 bariatric calls, countywide, were between August and Dec. 31, 2006.
Over the years, the volume of calls has increased steadily. In 1956, Engine 10 responded to 256 calls. Today, Station 10 responds to about 2,200 calls each year.
