Programs Available Through the Office of Fire and Life Safety

Fire Engine Visits

Fire engines and medic units can visit your school or community event, although they will remain in service; that means their visit will be cancelled if they are called to an emergency.

Please schedule engine visits at least one month in advance by contacting a fire station in your area to set up an appointment.

Basic FirFire education begins with the very young.e Safety Programs

A variety of age-specific fire safety educational programs, are available to children and adults: "In An Instant," "Be Cool About Fire Safety,"  "Smoke Detectives," and "Let's Rap Fire Safety."  Programs cover basic home fire safety, including smoke alarms, fire extinguishers, "stop, drop and roll," fire escape plans, cooking safety and electrical safety.

The Hazard House, a table top model house, can also be used to identify a variety of home hazards and safety tips.

To schedule, call 410-887-4876. Additional information on fire safety is available at  http://www.usfa.fema.gov/public.

Car Seat Safety

Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death and injury for children ages four to 14. To help reduce the number of children injured in car crashes, Baltimore County Fire, Police and Health departments offer information for parents about how to install car seats properly.

For more information about car seat installation and monthly, appointment-only seat checks, visit our Child Passenger Safety Guide.

Fire Extinguisher Program

Many people keep a fire extinguisher at home, but how many know how to use it properly? There are different kinds of extinguishers for different kinds of fires, and using them is trickier than you might think. In this program, geared for small groups of adults, firefighters teach you what kind of extinguisher is right for your needs, and how to use it. (Please note: This program does not include hands-on fire extinguisher training.)

To schedule, call 410-887-4876.

Emergency Evacuation Planning

Every business and apartment building should have an emergency evacuation plan. The Baltimore County Fire Marshal's Office, 410-887-4880, will furnish guidelines to assist you with the development of your plan.  For additional information, visit http://www.usfa.fema.gov/downloads/pyfff/escapes.html.
