The program that will be delivered this year consists of five modules. Modules 1 through 4 are Powerpoint slide shows that are narrated by Hazmat Team members that also have validation quizzes in the form of Job Performance Requirements Sheets that must be completed by EACH member of the Baltimore County Fire Department. Once the tasks are completed on the sheets, they will be signed by a Company Officer and then sent to Station 14 where a file will be maintained. The tasks in these sheets are derived from NFPA 472 (2007 Edition).
Module 1 will be completed in January, Module 2 will be completed in February, Module 3 will be completed in March and Module 4 will be completed in April.
The breakdown of topics for these sessions are:
Module 1 = Collecting Hazard and Response Information
Module 2 = Identification
Module 3 = Predicting the Behavior of Hazardous Materials
Module 4 = Personal Protective Equipment
Module 5 consists of practical tasks that will be completed in a three hour block at Station 14. Included in these tasks will be a review of DECON 54, foam operations, victim rescue and recovery, and product control skills (diking, damming, etc.). The scheduling of these sessions will occur later in the year with planned delivery during the months of May, July, August, and September.
Certificates verifying completion with NFPA 472 will be provided upon completion of the five modules.
